Beaverhead River Fly Fishing Report

A small sized river with surprisingly large trout draws anglers to the Beaverhead. Not far from the Big Hole, about 20 miles from Dillon the river can be floated or waded.  Floating the river is often a successful venture, but make sure you check us out for the flows as this waterway can get quite low in the later summer months. The river originates at the Clark Fork Dam. Plenty of towns are nearby for supplies such as Dillon, Butte, or Twin Bridges.

  1. Dustin Reported:

Best Fly: Pats Rubber Leg (tird)
    Water Conditions: High but Clear
    Weather Conditions: Cold & Rainy
    Floated or Waded: floated
Section of Water Fished: Dam to High Bridge and down to Pipe

Fished on Saturday and Sunday. Floated High Bridge to Pipe Morgan Sat and Dam to Pipe on Sunday. The fish were eating Big Fluffy dry flies very aggressively on Sat but Sunday the big fly action slowed down and we caught a lot of fish on streamers. The first four miles seems to be full of big fish. Then after that it is hard to keep the 12″ browns off your line. The small browns are really thick this year. For the first mile after High Bridge the gold chubby chernobyl was on fire, then after that it was pats rubber legs tight to the bank. The only way we were getting big fish was to stay right on the bank and the big ones would come out of the dark cut bank. The guys are Frontier Angler’s were awesome and super helpful. Make sure you stop in there if you go through Dillion, MT.

  2. Tim Pommer Reported:

Best Fly: Morish Peach Hopper and Rainey's Hopper in Yellow
    Water Conditions: Good Vis
Weather Conditions: Cold front one day, Hot one day
    Floated or Waded: floated
Section of Water Fished: Pipe Organ Down

The Caddis action last night was fantastic and the hopper fishing during the day was excellent. Doesn’t get much better than the fishing we experienced on the Beaverhead this weekend.
