The Lower Madison starting below the the Ennis Dam is a great fishery. Great for both the wading and the floating angler. This stretch includes the well known Bear Trap Canyon, a beautiful whitewater stretch with deep pools. Then the river slows down and shallows up from the bottom of the canyon all the way to Three Forks, MT.

Fishing was ok, not hot like the Gallatin. Beadhead prince, pt’s, copper john in orange and a green mayfly emerger all caught fish. Deeper holes and buckets held fish. Lots of bwo on the water, all action was under.

Waded the Gallatin late yesterday afternoon/ evening (3pm-7pm), great fishing the entire time! We caught dozens on BWO dries, emergers and also Red San Juans, Prince nymphs and Pheasant tails. Fish were very energetic unlike some cold April days previously.

Sat, floated with 1 guy in my boat, double crayfish in the buckets and on edge of weeds. No extra weight, just dead drift em. Also white streamers stripped or swung through the buckets are working well too. On cloudy days switch it up to baetis/cray.
