Well known as one of the finest trout streams in Montana, Rock Creek begins at the confluence of the East and West Forks of Rock Creek near Philipsburg. The stream flows through 30 miles of National Forest land providing excellent fishing access. A forest service, dirt road follows the river in its entirety. Rock Creek eventually drains into the Clark Fork River near Clinton, MT.

I have not been out much this year, but I enjoy hitting Rock Creek at least once a season. I started throwing nymphs which brought in a few fish. I switched mid day to Comparaduns and small attractors that was the money!!

Attractors are the ticket, mayflies are working as well but very spotty especially with the cloud cover. Droppers are bringing in more fish number is you are ok with not catching them on top.

Lots of fish action or the couple hours I was out. Threw a variety of small attractors and they all did the trick. Saw 3 different Bald Eagels, one with a fish.

Fish are willing to eat a variety of small dries if you give them a perfect drift. If you can’t do that, catching these guys is a little tricky. The fish are getting a bit skiddish and only willing to take perfect presentations. If you can get that down you will be good to go.
