Ruby River Fly Fishing Report

Good access, good hatches and good fishing can all be found in this small-mid sized river. Public access is abundant thanks to past work done by Trout Unlimited. Ruby River trout love dry flies and don’t miss the Grasshopper action in late July and August.

10 Fly Fishing Reports

  1. Bart W. Reported:

    Best Fly: PMD's
Water Conditions: high, from dam down
    Weather Conditions: 75,sunny,no winbd
    Floated or Waded: waded
Section of Water Fished: Below Dam

Fishing is decent blow the dam. The access is shut down as they are working ont he dam. Water is high, I assume from draining the dam, but fishing is good and bugs are out. Typical for this time of the year… pmds durring the day, caddis in the evening.

  2. Rob Morgan Reported:

    Best Fly: Prince nymph
    Water Conditions: 478cfs
Weather Conditions: Clouds on and off
    Floated or Waded: floated
Section of Water Fished: Second access below dam

Still rolling pretty good, but the water has droped enough to make it fishable. Cranefly larva, prince nymphs were our ticket to success yesterday. Watchout for hail with these storms coming through this week.

  3. Karla Childs Reported:

    Best Fly: prince nymphs
    Water Conditions: Droping, still big
    Weather Conditions: nice
    Floated or Waded: floated
    Section of Water Fished:

Acess below dam is closed for the season. Have to go lower to get in, fishing is ok, still lots of water. We had luck mostly on numphs, couple on black wooly buggers. Another week and the ruby will be alot better

  4. Will Reported:

    Best Fly:
    Water Conditions: over 900 cfs
    Weather Conditions:
    Floated or Waded: floated
Section of Water Fished: @ dam

They have now closed the dam for repairs and are letting a lot of water out. In the couple of springs that I have been fishing here, I don’t think I have ever seen this river so full. There is a bit of color to the water and it is moving so fast it would be hard to get a decent drift.

  5. Will Reported:

    Best Fly:
    Water Conditions: 971 CFS.... wow
    Weather Conditions:
    Floated or Waded: floated
Section of Water Fished: Below Dam

Don’t waist your time… river is BLOWN OUT. Last year at this time the river was carrying half of what it is right now.

Talked with some locals, going to close access by dam soon. The dam is going under construction. not sure how that will effect fishing through there.
